The Cooling Singapore project was featured in the article "A 'Cooling Singapore' team has been established" by Shin Min Daily on 24 March 2019. The article follows a Facebook post by the Minister of National Development and the Second Minister of Finance Mr Lawrence Wong that highlighted the urban heat island (UHI) effect and that a Cooling Singapore project has been established to undertake research on mitigating the UHI effect.

Research by the Cooling Singapore team has found that citizens are engaging in reducing the urban heat and are more willing to contribute to the mitigation strategies after they have gained awareness. The local government is also looking to have more collaboration with urban climate research groups to develop new technologies to solve the urban climate related problems.

The Cooling Singapore project is funded by the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) to develop means to mitigate the UHI effect and improve outdoor comfort.
