ETH Zurich has been named the sixth best university in the recent QS rankings. This makes it the top ranked university outside the English-speaking world and in continental Europe.

In the Business Times Swiss supplement published on the ocassion of the Swiss National Day on 1 August 2019, the paper not only celebrates the success of the Swiss university, but also the strong links with Singapore.

ETH Zurich has been actively involved in promoting and fostering scientific cooperation with key institutions in the Asia Pacific region as the leading house for the Swiss Science and Technology Programme with Asia since 2008. Setting up the Singapore-ETH Centre as part of the National Research Foundation's external pageCampus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) further strengthens this link.

"Our presence in Singapore...provides our students with a unique opportunity to be close to where rapid urbanisation is unfolding and where research plays an important role in informing and shaping more sustainable development and more resilient cities," says Professor Gerhard Schmitt, founding director of the Singapore-ETH Centre.

In the article, ETH Zurich President, Professor Joel Mesot also shares the ingredients for success. They include excellent students and faculty, intellectual freedom and autonomy, and strong support and secured funding.

Professor Schmitt also shares plans to expand the scope of research at the Singapore-ETH Centre to the field of digital health, which is timely given the current focus on healthcare transformation in Singapore, and extending the research on the Future Resilient Systems.
